financing artistic practice
Does funding art from public resources make it more independent? or let's ask in this way, is privately funded art scene becomes more "integreted" with the public? (whatever that integrated means..)
As someone not defining the work I have been doing as art, but somewhat interdisciplinary and therefore touching art at some point, this is not what I earn my main income. That spoildness might be making it hard for me to understand how is it to survive on art and artistic practice, and to reach a medium and make that audience understand/appreciate your art so they should keep on funding.
US art center-non profit organizations model seems like combining both public and private funds but including private investers more especially for non-profit organizations. Even though it feels more of a prostitution when you are presented as the excotic spices of a fundraising dinner it might be a clever way to bridge the gaps of understanding(if both sides are interested in that of course)and of course also for the artist to generate "followers" for his/her artistic practice.
I think for the Turkish case, this discussion should be more spread in different grounds, especiially since the public tends to not fund art, or they intervene or define it so strictly that different practices other than classical art with conventional themes can't find a path to infiltrate.

day of the dead

it is interesting to see how some cultures deals with death in such an easygoing and healthy manner... this was a part of my thoughts while wandering through the day of the dead parade in San Francisco and gazing at small altars, shrines. Candles, shiny skulls, make up and costumes, happy music and a lot of dancing; not anything mournful and full of regret (because of missed moments) as I would think of death.. and also reminded of so many beautiful people passed away this year..

remembrance
du inte bara stör
du vänder hela mitt liv upp och ner
välkommen
you do not only disturb
you turn my whole life upside down (up and down)
welcome
from a swedish poet whom I can't recall the name...

new beginnings
my dear friend who was supposed to look after my plants, managed to kill even the most stubborn ones that survived for some years now. after finding all my plants died, I felt too tired to start all over again, especially since I don't know how mobile I will be after mid september. But still, I took some small steps and started with tomatoes again from the seedlings that I have gave to friends before I left for southern hemisphere. Now here comes some of these small red beauties :) They smell nice but haven't tasted yet..

just gives some small hope that I will be able to finish some things and make new beginnings..

Three news from home
cutting the branch that you're sitting on or new agricultural policies in Turkey:
New law proposal for genetically modified seeds usage in Turkey. not going to be used in baby food though! Most of these seeds are developed for "sustainable marketing" purposes and therefore can't be reproduced. We are not really sure what we are eating today we will soon have no idea... To increase productivity is one thing to loose all your endemic species and being totally dependent for seeds on outer resources is something else. I wonder what they are protecting really.. not the farmer at least , related news
noyoutubeland:
Minister of Transportation waits for youtube to open an office in Turkey and suggested meanwhile instead of using foreign sites we should have our own "local" sharing site (.....) with that attitude and state of mind he should simply resign
"Ne işimiz var elalemin sitesinde!"
Smoking ban finally including indoors by 19 July 2009! One good news at least ;)
